need help won't start
 

My boss has his 71 roadrunner at the audio shop. When they were installing the new system they left the key in the on postion for a couple hours now it wont start. Im going tomorrow to check it out. i would assume that it has no spark but im not sure yet.. Where should i start? i'veread that these cars have problems with the ballast resistors on them. I was wondring about the points in the distributor as well. At this point without looking at ti it could be either of them...... If anybody could help me out that would be awesome

If the key was left in the "on" position, it could well be the ballast resistor, or points ( assuming it's not electronic yet).

ok so the car is a 69 roadrunner clone i found out today.ok the ballast resistor is good and it has a new coil. im getting power to the coil and i think im getting good signal from the electronic pick from the distributor. im wondering about the cromw box that the wires go to from the distributor could that be a problem????

Did the car run fine before going in for the audio equipment? Any part of the ignition could be the culprit. Start at the end and work your way back, first see if the plugs are getting spark and if they aren't then check to see if your getting spark from the coil.

It is possible to burn up a set of points by leaving the ignition on. If the points are in the right position, slightly open with the key on, an arc will occur between the contacts thus burning up the points. You need to check if the points are making any spark at all by having someone crank over the engine while you inspect the points for spark with the distributor cap removed. Hek, while you are in there, spread the points apart a little bit and inspect them for wear.:)
