What's up with my accelerator???
I'm in need of help I hope someone knows what I am going thru. Tues. nite I made a store run and when I started my car it did'nt turn over all the way, thus having to start again and as I was doing that a car diaginal from me was doing the same and then I heard a pop sound like a back fire but distant. I assumed it was the car diaginal from me. Drove home no problem. Wed. evening I had to run an errond and when I started my car it was idled hard almost like the accelerator was to the floor but I was no touching it. Put the car in gear (reverse) and on my way. And then as I was driving thru town speed limit is 30 I reached 30 and pulled off the accelerator to remain at that speed. Well the car was accelerating on it's own and pushing 35. It's like someone was accelerating for me. I had to ride the vreak to keep from speeding. And each time I approached a light and had to stop the car would kinda jerk, not hard but enough to notice as I was slowing down to stop. Does anyone know what and why this is? |
RE: What's up with my accelerator???
not real sure but sounds like a cruise control issue. start by pulling that fuse and testing it out.

RE: What's up with my accelerator???
perhaps your accelorator cable got stuck. Or it could be that your throttle position sensor (TPS) is bad.

RE: What's up with my accelerator???
Ihave replaced the TPS and the O rings as well. My Neon accelerates on its own although it will not pass 60 mph and it is not equiped with cruise control. What should i do now?

ORIGINAL: billie5769 perhaps your accelorator cable got stuck. Or it could be that your throttle position sensor (TPS) is bad. while you may have replaced the TPS, i would also check all the wiring/connections for it. my SRT (well known problem for them) had the TPS replaced, but it was actually a wiring issue, not the TPS itself. try revving your engine from the engine bay by pushing on the throttle, see if it sticks there and check for slack in the cable. |
