Dodge Neon - No Reverse
2002 Dodge Neon AT 55,668 miles
Last weekend I drive the car to a friends house and let it sit for the day while out shopping. When I came back the car would not go into reverse without revving the engine very high.
In the past the car had gone into limp mode but there was never a total loss of a gear.
We have checked the linkage and cables both of which are fine. We have also done a transmission fluid, filter and gasket change. None of these helped.
While the car was jacked in the air the tires would spin freely when put into reverse, when the tires are on the ground the car remains still when in reverse as if it were in park. Reverse lights come on whenever car is put in reverse. All other gears work.
What is the issue. I am refusing to believe a car with 55,000 miles on it needs a new transmission.
Any suggestions?
