What's the Difference?
So what is the difference in the 150hp R/T motor and the 132hp in my SXT? Where did Dodge get the extra ponies from??

RE: What's the Difference?
I have the sxt as well, but if I recall in my reading, is that one difference is we have the SOHC, Single Over Head Cam, and the magnum 2.0 has the DOHC Dual Over head cam

RE: What's the Difference?
well, i figure it was pretty easy.....
correct me if im wrong but pre-2000 neons had a base 130-sumthing horsepower, while the dohc pushed 150 that being said, they probably just looked back a few years to get the answer keep in mind that the neon is an economy car...theres plenty that a big corporation can do to make it better...it just costs a little more peace jr. |
RE: What's the Difference?
The older SOHC's are 132 horsepower as well. The DOHC motors had the second cam, but less compression. The cam profile and intake manifold differences had a lot to do with it, as did the computer.

RE: What's the Difference?
OK, I didn't realize the R/T's had the DOHC. That answers all my questions then. Thanks.

RE: What's the Difference?
The new R/T's are not DOHC, they are SOHC just like a SXT. I'm not sure what creates the extra power on them, probably what roadrunner is referring to. The older R/T's were DOHC though, i believe all second gen neon (se, sxt, r/t) are single cam. Correct me if i'm wrong.

RE: What's the Difference?
If you want a good clue on the '00 and up 150 horse SOHC you just need look at the IT SOHC block available from mopar. Except for removing the smog you can get a lot with a cam, some machining and work in the intake.
You actually can get quite a bit from the intake and cam. . . .trust me on this. ;) My car still passes the CA sniffer check too. |
RE: What's the Difference?
Ok...I thought the R/T was still using the single overhead cam. I checked a few places after and found that out. So it's most likely the computer, intake and exhaust, different cam profile, smog/emission crap? Well, that's not too bad. HAHA :)

RE: What's the Difference?
the newer r/t are SOHC, but they have a better intake manifold, better header, and a better pcm. i think thats what creates more power.

RE: What's the Difference?
click here that site could help you answer some more questions. It has a lot of info on the specs of the engines and trannys of the neons.
