EGT's...
O.K....not enough fuel causes higher EGT's, corrct? If so if I put a FASS on my truck would the fact that I am holding more pressure all of the time help with high EGT's? Ive been playing with my truck and noticing that my EGT's are at thier highest when my fuel rail begins to drain, its only in stage 5 since I went with the hot juice...at first a turbo and an innercooler were reccomended but after watching my guages I have to ask...would a FASS system be the best place to start? Drew?...Triton?...Jake?...

RE: EGT's...
High egts are when you are under full fuel with low engine rpm/ exhaust flow. Fass is a good place to start, but it won't help out the egts. The turbo will be the main thing that's keeping them egt's up there. How ever you'll probably want the fass with all them upgrades your pushing the stock lift pump.

RE: EGT's...
You can always get a set of twins to help keep the EGT's down.

RE: EGT's...
Sharx, it's completely your decision but, there's some very nice LP's out there besides the FASS.
It's expensive, it's bulky, it's not easily repairable on the side of the road. It does have the water separator though which others don't. The way around that is to just reuse the stock filter housing. Not sure about yours but, that's where the fuel heater is and water separator is. Once you add more fuel though.... you're going to see even higher EGT's especially if you try to use the higher settings on your box. If you get a bigger turbo though to help drop the EGT's, you'll have to have the better LP to keep up the rail pressure. If I were you, I'd do a LP first. You can have fun with that for a little while, it will put less stress on the CP3 and help keep up your rail pressure. As mentioned though.... it will cause higher EGT's so then a turbo would will be the bomb-diggity :D You can live without a intercooler but! if you do start getting into big boost numbers and you do have the plastic ends on your cooler.... you should probably change it just to avoid being stuck on the side of the road. |
RE: EGT's...
sharxie. . .you still have your head in the gasser world. . .the leaner gassers run the hotter the exhaust. diesel are just the complete opposite;)
think of diesels like a camp fire. . .what happens if you throw some fire water on it:D(I was always the pyro) |
RE: EGT's...
Thanks guys, your rights Drew still thinking like a gasser but in all fairness, a diesel does everything the opposite that you want a gasser to do hehehe:D

RE: EGT's...
Fuel is heat. And no matter what RPM range you're getting high EGT's in, you're starving for air. Plain and simple.
Bigger turbo, intercooler, and tubo -back exhaust solves all of that. If I mash the pedal on my Ram going uphill, for example, my EGTs skyrocket to 1600+ in about 5-10 seconds. Depends on the grade. But if I accelerate at a rate where the turbo maintains 15-20 lbs, I can climb the same hill and my EGT won't roll past 1150. That's my experience. For whatever it's worth. Good luck with your ride. |
RE: EGT's...
Thanks Demon who makes the best after market turbo? Mine only does it if a get on it super hard no other time, just like yours

ORIGINAL: triton there's some very nice LP's out there besides the FASS. It's expensive, it's bulky, it's not easily repairable on the side of the road. Not sure about yours but, that's where the fuel heater is and water separator is. :D I don't think I'd be working on ANY lift pump on the side of the road, and I'm pretty sure there are enough out there that getting parts for one wouldn't be THAT difficult. Yeah ... it's big, but it hides away from site easily up under the bed. As far as the heater goes, I continued to use my stock filter housing with a modified / missing filter. That way I'll still have the heater. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15...0302RESIZE.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15...4-23-07040.jpg Works like a charm ... |
