I just bought an 07.. so of courseI'll say 04.5+are the one's to buy. I still can't decide if my 02 was more comfortable or not. I'm not all that happy with the Yes Essentials interrior. If you aren't planning on towing really heavy loads.. make sure you get the 3.73 gears.. the 4.10's would be nice if you tow heavy all the time but aren't going to help the fuel mileage any. My old one was silver and didn't show dirt much.. the new one is inferno red and shows everything.. I like the idea of 24 valves over 12 too. I guess it all just depends on how much you want ot spend and what your plans are for it after you own it... they all rock!

It all depends on your budget.

If you are looking to get into a good dependable used diesel for under $12,000-$15,000, I would recommend the early 1998 12 Valve Cummins Quad Cab, as it is the first quad cab with 4 doors. Try to find one with less than 200,000 miles that is in good condition, little or no blow-by and does not use much oil. Plan on having the Auto Transmission rebuilt by a shop that is familiar with the Dodge Truck Auto Trans. At the same time replace the Torque Converter with a top of the line Billet unit, such as the ATS 5 Star. You should be able to purchase the truck and do the transmission upgrades, and put in a # 10 Fuel Plate for an all up cost of $12,000-$15,000.

If your budget is a bit bigger, I would opt for the 2004.5 and later 24 Valve unit. Again you will probably need to upgrade the transmission and torque converter at some point.

AVOID the 2007 6.7L Cummins, they seem to be having quite a few problems.

You should get an 07 with a 5.9L, if you have the $$ available, while you can still get a virgin one.

imports eh..... That is what our trucks eat for breakfast everymorning, hahaha :D.

Well you definitely came to the right place to figure out the perfect diesel truck to buy, going to a chevy or ford forum would have been a mistake ;).
