6.7 vs. 5.9 gas mileage

Hello,

I was thinking about buying ablack ram, auto laramie. How many miles are you guys getting on a full tank of gas? And how big is your guys's tank? Are the 5.9 and 6.7 tank the same size? I'm just asking because gas is going up so I wanted to figure out if I should purchase a 5.9 because it gets better fule mileage or a 6.7. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

RE: 6.7 vs. 5.9 gas mileage

I have nearly 10k miles on my 6.7L. I have been tracking my fuel consumption on an Excel spreadsheet since Day 1. It started out around 12 MPG and gradually increased to 15-16 MPG after a few months. Mine has a 34 gallon tank. From what I have heard the 5.9 engines get a little better fuel economy. The 6.7 is smoother, quieter, and more powerful. Some of the 6.7 owners have reported trouble with the new emissions stuff, and at least a couple of guys had a turbo replaced under warranty. I have not been to the dealer at all since I bought mine.My engine computer threw a couple of trouble codes last summer, butthe issuewent away on its own.

6.7 20-21 hwy and 15 city.. more rumors then anything else on the MPG for the 6.7l....

also read on here some 5.9l complain about mpg so do 6.7l on a few trucks..

I'm only averaging about 14-15 mpgs with my 5.9, but I think 90% of everyone else are getting 16+ mpg which is great for a 6k to 7k lb truck.

I'm new to this forum but not new to CTD. I've owned 3 now, a 99/03 and now an 06. The best mileage I've gotten with my new 06 is 13mpg. I've gotten 18 with my 03 and close to that with my 99. But this 06 is pathetic so far. And 13 is highway driving with an ATV on the back at about 75mph. I have a 6 speed manual and a 1 ton dually. I understand that the dual wheels will make a little bit worse but how are you getting 20mpg?? Are you chiped? would it be worth spending the money to do such a thing. My truck has 62,000 miles on it allready and only gets 13. That's pathetic I think. Any info. that you might have would be great.. Thanks

Sorry to hear that. I'm kind of in the same boat, I'm only getting 14-15 mpg while it seems like everyone else is getting 17-20+. There are lots of things you can do. Chips, Programmers, fuel addatives just to name a few things. Just do some searches on the forum for things like Drew's Brew and Max Mileage.

Forgot to say welcome to the forum. This place is awesome and there are some guys here who know practically everything about these trucks. Just start reading and you will learn a lot. Be sure and post any questions you have and try to make a signature so everyone will know what your driving.:D

i just bought my 05 cummins 2500, i drive 1500 k one way every month after im out of my camp job just becasue i love driving, i drive to the mountains all the way from Yellowknife, Canada, on highway i avg. about 21 mpg and my truck is bone stock except for my dual cat back mbrp exhasut. i love my truck and one of the main reasons is because of the fuel milage.
also i live far north and i was thinking i get a lil better fuel milago cuz the air might be a bit colder up here. the truck as about 80 thousand K.
