won't start after repair
 

I took my 03 Ram 2500 with the Cummins turbo diesel into a Cummins dealerhship to get an oil leak repaired. They put in a new valve cover gasket, timing cover gasket and pan gasket. I drove it home no problem and no leaks. It sat for 3 days because of a snow. Today I went out and it started fine, I drove it out into the snow and put on the brake and it stalled. I started it (hard to start) and then when I put it into drive if stalled again. I did this a couple of times each time starting with difficulty and when putting it into drive it would stall. Now it won't start at all. Any thoughts? I've got the batteries on a charger right now but it seems that it wouldn't have started in the first place if the battery was low.

lift pump is dead. . .if you go to the dealer they will drop the tank and put on in there, or you can remove the stock pump and put in either a fass or walbro pump.

If it's the lift pump, is this just a bazaar coincidence?

yup. . .they will go out rather unexpectedly.

Weird how this works.... I had my truck in the shop to get the fan replaced, 5min later after picking it up my fuel pump died.

Here are the three codes I get P 0628, p 0480, P 0483.

could they have disconnected something electrical?

0628=Fuel Pump Relay Circuit Low, or Fuel Lift Pump Control Circuit Low

0480=Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit/Open (Low Speed Fan Relay)

0483=Cooling Fan Speed


you know what. . .Ive seen this before. . .check all your wires around the A/C compressor and make sure none have rubbed through or are rubbing on the metal lines comeing off the compressor. this was an issue on 03's and some 04's and is a quick and easy fix with some wire loom.

hate to say but with the fuel pump circuit code usually it is a failed lift pump. i presume yours is still the original on the back of the filter housing have the dealer replace it and they will retrofit it to the intank pump should be under the diesel warranty as long as that is still good should be covered

This is the reason that no diesel truck should be without a fuel pressure gauge.

I'll check the wires that Drew mentioned tonight. Is the retrofitted pump an expensive proposition? I'm pretty sure it won't be covered under warranty (121,000 miles) and I'm not ready to go into the tank on my own.
