Need help from a truck mechanic.

I have an 08 Freightliner Columbia with a C-13 ACERT. The engine brake only engauges with the brake pedal. I know it can be programed to work off the accelerator. Can this be done by me or does it have to be done through the comm link? Thanks in advance for any help.

Has to be done with CAT ET software so CAT dealer only. You want them to change the engine brake from latched to coast. Takes all of about 10 mins.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that was the case. Don't understand the logic of an engine brake designed to save your service brakes only being energized if you apply the brakes. I'm sure this rig will see the inside of a cat dealer sooner than later.

Who did you buy the truck from? If they are a cat dealer, I'd try to go make a deal with the service manager.

Jake, your sig has me a little confused. Did you flip the pic of your truck to make it work? Cause the exhaust appears as if you have duals, which I didn't think you did. And the badges on the door looks backwards.

It's a company truck. I'll just have to wait till it's going in for warranty work. Do independents have the equipment usually? The company we go to for PMs can't seem to figure out how to service my tri-pac. They usually can take it in quick so I don't loose too much time.

Sometimes large fleets will have the software to do it. The cost is what keeps most fleets from buying it. Not sure how much it costs, but there is an annual fee.

I just received a memo that they are bringing all the units in to have the idle limiter installed. That will probably be my chance to get it switched. There are only 5 units in our fleet. The main plant in Cleveland has maybe 12. I've had to deal with their mechanics in the past and came to the conclusion that you are better off limping the rig to the highway and calling national breakdown.
