Engine Oil for cummins 6.7?

What brand of oil you guys use on your 6.7 Cummins? I know its a special low sulfur oil that they carry, but do we really have to use the "Mopar" brand? The dealer said it's ok to do it on your own, but suggested to only use their brand. But its $25 a gallon and that's ridiculous. So what oil brand you guys use other than the factory thats safe and good quality for our 6.7's? Thanks, Luis.

check your owners manual for engine oil specs. then purchase an oil that meets those specs (lable on back of container will have the specs) I use shell rottella T full synthetic(they just came out with the "low sulphur" engine oils), Amsoil has good stuff, valvoline blue etc, just be sure they meet the specs as required and stated in the owners manual, keep track of oil changes including receipts, this will statisfy the dealer.

PS. you'll get all kinds of opinions on which oil is best, its up to you which you decide on but just be sure it meets the specs.

Thanks alot for the info. So far ive used the 'Castrol Tection Extra Oil' which also says that is low sulfated ash, and meets what the owners manual says. So I don't understand why the dealer strongly wants us to use their 'Mopar' brand if it says the same specifications as a popular brand oil. Does anyone use 'Mobil Delvac Oil' for your 6.7's? Would it also be safe for our 6.7's? Would like to switch to that oil but first need any opinions. Thanks, Luis.

You can use any oil that is rated CJ-4 in the 6.7L Cummins. I use Amsoil DEO 5W-40 synthetic.

Use (SAE 15W-40, API CJ-4 Certified, that meets Chrysler Material Standards MS-10902. Products meeting Cummins CES 20081 Standards may also be used.)

Out of the service manual;;

i am a bit confused... i searched my local stores for 15w40 synthetic -- and couldn't find any -- i see in other posts here some are using FIVEw40... why not 15w?
thanks

(at 25/ a quart i am not paying that price again.. just about had a heart attack when i saw my bill..)

5w40 is the synthetic oils. 15w40 is the regular oil.

i see - and i read up on another forum why they viscosity changes from 15 to 5 when using synthetic... for regular oil would the below work and follow warranty considerations?

(trying to find options i can buy myself without paying dealer rates)

http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...1300_Super.asp

CJ-4 Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40

When i search for "SAE 15w40 API CJ-4 Certified" i get all synthetic google hits. We are not changing to synthetic yet - we were advised by several people to wait until the third oil change for that due to breaking in of the engine.

I think the Mopar stuff is re-bottled Valvoline Premium Blue.
That's assuming your dealer isn't using budget bulk oil.
