I did a search but did not find EGT on 600's
I have just found out on a all RV forum from a fellow 3 gen CTD owner tha the EGT' s can and will go higher then my 02 CTD did, he sugest's the in the 1400 range is ok for all day running and the even spikes higher are ok but NOT for running at.
On my 02 I was always keeping 1200 as my scared point. Any truth to the 1400 mark ?? Thanks Ralph |

I heard spikes over 1450 were ok... Drew mentioned a while back that stuff will start to melt if it's sustained @ 1450 IIRC. hopefully he can set me straight on this if he hasnt left yet.

still here, not sure how long, maybe sometime tomorrow I'll be AWOL;)
anyhoo, 1350F-1400F is pushing it, 1450F and your getting ready to melt something if you keep it there. the valves and valve seats on the heads of these engines have been machined and developed to handle higher EGT's. so going past 1200F your 02 did is nothing for these new engines. heck, Ive heald 1300F (~30 sec)before and not a problem (was shutting down part of the main drag when visiting a good friend a while back:D). EGT's are higher on these newer HPCR engines, but just remember, if you start creeping much past 1400F sustained your asking for trouble. now, if you happen to spike to 1500F for a moment or two the valves and the seats are only going to get that hot feeling, but they will not get hot soaked and that is where the problem is. under stock conditions, pulling the heaveist load Ive pulled so far(8000#) hammering it up hill all I could get was around 1200F, there is truith in the 1400F danger zone, however I like to play it safe and pull the line down to 1350F. that extra 50F can mean the difference of keeping the engine running or dropping a valve seat. |

Thanks Drew, I will keep 1350 in mind when I am watching it, I was not sure about it, but you cleared it up for me thanks
