Edge Juice w/Attitude owners...

Are there any that are in the northern states who would be willing to do the following test for me...???

Set the Attitude monitor to show air intake temp and on a cold day, (45 or below is what I consider cold enough) jump on the freeway for about 4~5 miles & 65 mph (or 70) record the intake temp. then block off a portion of the inner cooler so that at least 25% of it is no longer flowing air past it, a piece of cardbord should probably work fine.maybe a U shaped cutout which covers the 2 sides & part of the bottom... that way radiator flow wouldnt be hit too hard...

then jump back on the same stretch of freeway and record the intake temp and post it back here.

Why do this you ask? (I know inquiring minds want to know... lol) Since temps here in CA have jumped into the 70 & low 80's my power has jumped right along with it... increasing my overall mpg. When I had my edge installed, I noticed that I felt the most power when the intake temp was 100~110 deg. If whoever does this can leave it like that (watching their coolant temps so you dont overheat) for about a week, or 200~300 miles whichever works best for you, I'll bet your mpg will go up. Of course when the temps start climbing your not going to want to leave it blocked, but for winter driving it may be a good thing...

any takers?

any thoughts on this?

Steve,

I read on another site about the effects of to of cold air temp and how mpg and power was affected by it. IIRC they felt that the temp of some where in the 100 degree range gave better power and mileage so I think you have found out what I have seen other post about but I did not keep up with it as some of it was way over my understanding. IIRC they were saying it would be nice to find away to use warm engine heat to some how warm up the incoming air to help get better fuel burn in cold temps until the whole engien was up to operating temp or some thing along that line of thought.

well one way would be to block part of the inner cooler, the turbo will take care of the rest. compressed air will generate heat which could help the burn in the winter. I just thought it was interesting how the power seemed to peak when it was between 100~110 deg. It would be awesome to gain control over that temp as well as the fuel temp. I know the fuel heater shuts off @ 75 deg F so i'd guess that would be the magic number (or there abouts) for the fuel. It'll be interesting to see what my truck does this year for mileage... it now has +50k on it so it's about 1/4~1/2 broke in lol...

Steve,
Unfortunatly, I think I read this post too late in the season. I'm in Cincinnati and we just now are hitting 60-70 deg days. If we get another few weeks of 40 and below....I'll give it a test.

that would be greatly appreciated. With spring now here, it might be hard to find someone to give it a shot. You might want to put the IAT gauge up on the attitude display and keep an eye out for when intake temps get up around 100... I'll be your butt dyno will concure that your making the most power between 100~110 deg IAT...

isn't this why they make covers for the grill?...i've seen soft ones and my neighbor has a 12v that has billet grill inserts that can be changed along with the temp....I remember seeing those a few years back.IIRC I think i saw a few school buses a while ago with covers over the grills

All that is, is a winter front for older trucks. Dodge makes a winter front hat fits under the hood over the radiator support. I have a photo of it but DF will not upload it even tho I have done so in the past with the same photo.

Steve, Around here the temps are up in high 50's low 60's and my truck is definitely running better, 21.6 up from 17.8 hand calculated. I don't have guages yet so I can't tell other than engine temp.
