truck lacking power
For a while now i've been tryingto figure out what is wrong with my 2001 ctd. What it does is the rpms jump abotu 100 to 200 rpms wwhile steady at 70 IT is especially bad when i'm pulling a load. I'm not throwing any codes could it be just the lift pump or could acctually be something else.

RE: truck lacking power
Get your fuel pressure checked and go from there. If it is the stock pump on the side of the block it will range in 15-9 PSI. Anything lower than that at wide open throttle is not good. If it is the intank pump your pressure will range from 8-5 PSI. If your pump is gone I would get something different other than stock solutions that will leave you standed.

I'd start with the fuel lines and feed coming out of the tank. If its fine when full and gets bad under 1/4 that would seem to me to mean that something is wrong in the tank. If it were the pump it should be having trouble all the time even when the tank is full. I know thats what happened in my truck anyway.

RE: truck lacking power
UPDATE AToday I got the truck on a lift checked the lines all seemed fine So i dropped the fuel tank with about 8 gallons in it and saw that there was a lot of water in the tank. SO i'm going to empty it and put fresh in but is there anything else I might need to worry about? And how can I prevent this in the future or was it just some bad fuel I got A while ago And the water never got out of the tank?

RE: truck lacking power
I'd do what jakebrake said and then be picky about where you get your diesel from. I've only got a couple places here in town that I get my fuel since I know they have quality fuel and maintain their pumps, tanks, etc and water can wreck havoc on your whole system.
