Depending on how far gone the sensor is, you may find yourself thumbing a ride. It's a relatively cheap part (<$40) and it only takes about 5 minutes to replace.

What would be a few of the symptoms of a bad crank position sensor?

Failure to start? Little yellow light on your dash.

I just replaced my crank sensor and I noticed that before, on top of the engine light, it would idle rough when it went into high idle and it was running in high idle a lot. Since I changed it there is no more rough idle and it doesn't go into high idle nearly as much.

Could a bad crank sensor be the cause for engine lope? My check engine light was on and then after 5 or 6 times of starting the truck it went away.

It could make it lope and almost sound like its starving for fuel, does your truck blow lot of white smoke when ya start it, and act kinda doggy? Im having mine replaced right now and thats what it did and the code that it was throwing was like PO500 which was like some speed sencor code

isb 5.9 and 6.7 will run on one position sensor crank and cam if one fails the engine will still start and run it just wont run very well haha. they did this as a fail safe so you wont be left stranded in the middle of bfe. If you dont get a check engine light and you think you have a bad sensor unplug one and try and start the engine if the engine wont start youve found your bad sensor.
