Default 2001 cummins

I went to start my truck the other day and it normally starts on the first crank, well it didnt start at all. I turned the key on a couple of times to try letting it pump up some and it started after about 8 seconds of cranking. Now it smokes like a train. At idle it will fog the place out with white/grey smoke, and it poors out if I get on it.The smoke smells like diesel. I dont know much about diesels but my thoughts is an injector is bad. It didnt throw any codes. Does this sound like an injector problem?

cycle your key three times from off to run and see if anything shows up. . .I'll bet your lift pump has died and you need to get it replaced ASAP before you kill the VP44

I wouldn't start that truck again until you check you fuel pressure and see if your lift pump has died. If it has, you could ruin your lift pump and you'll be looking at a $2000 to replace everything. When my first lift pump died, it did exactly as you describe. It could also be something simple like your fuel filter is clogged.

The 01's will do the three click method for getting the codes.

One other thing, don't take it to the dealer if it is your lift pump. THey will put an in-tank pump in your truck and it is a bigger piece of crap than the original.

The key trick works on my 02 and nothin really changed between 01 and 02. Check the fuel pressure, hopefully your vp44 isn't toast.

'00 works with the three click too. And I'd say your lift pump toasted out. Especially with the codes you threw.
