Installed remote start on an '08 6.7 today
My first install of anremote starton an '08 6.7. I like to install accessories so I will learn first hand the positives and negatives. The first thing that was a pain was that the install kit comes with no, yes I said no instructions. It has an instruction page to tell you where to find the install instructions on a site that only a dealer has access to. Even these instructions are incomplete. You have to go to 3 differentplaces to get all the instructions needed to do the install It took me 20 minutes to find these instructions and print them.
The hood switch was pretty easy to install and wire in, as was the wireless control module. These took about an hour. Now the real pita was the software updates.. It took about 1 hour and not because the STAR mobile was slow. It was because the you have log on to a dealer site and tell Dodge that you have added remote start. Then download the new vehicle configuration to the truck, them reprogram the wireless control module, then program the new keys. This is not an install that can be completed without getting the dealer involved.
The good news is that your original keys can be re-programmed to still crank the truck and the keyless on the key will still work but the original keys will not remote start it. You get two new keys that have an extra button for remote start. Now you have 4 keys..
The kit retails for about $200.00 and I charged $108.00 to install it..
Just wanted to share this with you guys, because while it is the best kit I have ever installed, and the next one will go so much easier now that I know the pains, it is not something that can be completed without the dealers help...

What brand of remote starter did you install. As I posted in an earlier conversation with you I found the Mopar Remote Starter installation instructions very well done. There was no software to upgrade and I did not have to get the dealer involved. It sounds as though your install was alot harder than mine.

Mopar kit, The 2005 is totally different than 2008, beause of the CAN bus electronics. It worked great, but since I was outside the truck, I never looked at the wait to start light. The guy is headed to Oklahoma and said that he would let me know how the weather affected it....

dang. . .they are just making things harder and harder.
Hey David, have you heard about the new law that is going before the GA house next week about vehicle mods. from what I saw it is mostly pointed twards motocycles, however I could actualy see regular cars and trucks being added in. if it passes that means all the stuff we put on our rides to make them "ours" will make them illegal to drive on the roads in Georgia.[:'(]
I found another version of the bill from 01 that didnt pass.

Georgia Introduces Bill to Severely Limit Suspension Alterations, Lighting Equipment
A bill (H.B. 192) has been introduced in the Georgia legislature by Rep.
Bobby Parham that would ban ANY vehicle whose suspension was altered more
than two inches above or below the factory recommendation. Previously, this
law only applied to private passenger cars - not trucks. The bill also
requires lenses on taillights to meet federal standards and not be "covered
or consist of anything other than reflective material installed as original
factory equipment or its equivalent replacement."
