Default 2004 dodge ram 3500

ok so I bought this truck last week, with 225000 miles on it for $7000 out the door at a dealership.
single cab 5.9 diesel with a 6 speed tranny. Took it home and changed all fluids in the motor and the diff.
Put the truck to work 4 days later hooked up to a 4 car trailer and was loaded with 4 cars and was cruising down the hwy at 65 and then heard a loud pop.

I thought the rear end blew out but my transmission sounds like rocks in a blender now with your foot off the clutch pedal.
as long as you keep the clutch pushed in, theres no noise.
I still have gears, but besides the loud sound, something is rolling around in there and binding up the gears.

My question is, what transmission is in this truck? Where can I find a new one or complete rebuild kits for the transmission at?

I'm bumping this up to the top of the list for you I can't tell you what trans you have. I have a auto and if I put a trans model I may be wrong

I wouldn't worry about a new tranny just yet. I have had a spring on a clutch snap before and cause all kinds of racket.
If you have the truck in gear and rev it up does it move forward?
If so, I'd say clutch/pressure plate.

i agree with scott91370. if the noise dissapears when you press the clutch then it is a problem with thrush bearings-pressure plate.
just replace the whole clutch with a heavier duty one if your doing lots of towing.
By the description of the symptoms you gave i would put money on it that this is your problem as i have seen it before.
good luck

well it was the worst of the worst. The mechanic got inside and saw that the transmission only had about 1 quart of fluid inside and it got too hot and snapped some gears loose. So he said it would probably be best to buy a rebuilt or used one as opposed to rebuilding mine.

Does anybody know where I can find one for a decent price? or maybe a complete rebuild kit with all new insides and gears?

can you get a little bit of warranty help from the dealer you bought the truck from?
I would think there should be a 90day warranty at least.
they shouldn't have delivered the truck to you with out checking the fluids
you only did the rearend and engine oil change.

they won't offer any help at all.
And Yes I was stupid not to check the tranny oil. I replaced all other oils and they all looked so good that it didn't even cross my mind.

I am to the point to sale the truck as is for $7200 with a bad transmission and cut my losses.

The trans you have is an NV5600, and is a great tranny.. You could probably have a rebuilt one installed for about $3,000 and still have a great truck. If you paid 7k for the truck, and 3k for the trans, you're still only into the truck for 10k, and it'll last you for a while yet to come.

well I was able to pick up a tranny for $1700 out of a wrecked truck with 81k miles on it. so after the labor and price of tranny its going to cost me $2100
