Default ac leak freon loss. Can i still drive truck

Hi. After getting to work today noticed steam/smoke coming from under hood. Took pics of what i saw. Called shop who said ac is leaking. Is it safe to drive for a few days back and fore to work until my shop appt for repairs. Thanks so much.

Yes it is safe to drive. Once all the refrigerant (not Freon, thats not used anymore) pressure has bled off, the compressor wont run.

JKeaton. Thank you very much. Got freaked out from the steam out of the hood. Liquid is gold colored like pee.

PAG oil. Yep, a/c system will hiss till it's empty. No worries, compressor simply won't run. (and, a/c simply is not going to work. )

HeyYou, Thank you so much. yes it was hissing and still leaking. Any ideas on repair costs? I dont use ac much here in Seattle. Its just a work truck.

Gonna depend on what they have to replace..... if it's just a seal, probably relatively inexpensive, 2-300 or so. If major parts need replaced, cost goes up quickly. Take it in, get an estimate, see what ya think. If it's too much money, and you don't really need a/c, you can just leave it broke. Defroster won't be as efficient...... but, that's about it.

Heat will work fine, but, anything that wants cooled air will not. (so, no a/c, poor defogger performance in warm, humid days, etc.)
