Default 6-speed versus auto in an '07?

Hey, I'm looking at getting a new '07 Ram 2500 with Cummins and was looking at the 6-speed tranny. Will be towing about a 6K pound trailer.

For those of you with 6-speeds, how do you like the quality/reliability/fun factor of the 6-speed? Wish you'd gotten an auto?

Thanx, Lance

even though I dont have the same manual that is in the 07's, since I have 4.10's in my axels I cna make a comment on it. . .you will get rather annoyed at the high RPM's you have to run for highway speeds. . .she wont be fast, but she'll pull the Empire State Building off it's foundation without touching the throttle.

for 6K, go for the auto unless you just love to shift your own gears.

I have the 6 speed in my '06. The same one you will end up with if you get an '07. If you do alot of highway driving at speeds over 70 MPH you won't like the 6 speed because like's been said it runs the higher RPM's and gets poor mileage. If you run <65 MPH you'll love it. It shifts good and it can pull great. Your call.

If your not gonna work it any harder than 6k, get the auto. I have an 04 6spd and gross up to 26k and no problems YET. I hang it in 6th and come to the house. By the way I got 19.38 on my last tank. Hwy and city driving, no towing. pullin 12tons I get 13 to 14 doin the speed limit. If I see a Ford comin I get alot less

I have a 07 3500 chasis cab. I really regret not spending the 2500.00 for the auto. The truck is geared too low for the type of driving that I do. I have to hit 5 gears before 45 mph. (lesson learned)

For towing I'd have to say get a 6 speed. I love mine and wouldn't ever have an auto. While I havent seen it in this thread I've read other places about the autos not shifting right or shifting too much seems to be a common complaint from many. But the new Aisin they're slapping behind the 6.7s is supposed to be a great trans. But me I prefer slapping gears. Really all it comes down to is what you prefer. Test drive em and see what you like best.
