1990 Ram B150 odometer

The odometer and trip meter stopped working on my van but the speedometer works just fine. Any comments on what might be wrong? Is it something that could be repaired or do I need toreplace entire unit?

RE: 1990 Ram B150 odometer

The plastic odometer gear inside the speedo unit probably stripped a tooth or two. Since both the odo and speedo are controlled by the same sensor (or cable) the problem is limited internally to the speedo unit itself. Getting one from a junkyard and swapping it out is your best bet. Keep in mind that you will need the mileage from both units and keep a record of them for when you need to sell the vehicle.

I removed the unit and was able to get the odometer to change simply by rotating the gear. I could see the gear on the servo motor rotating so I don't have a stripped gear. I believe it might be that the servo motor isn't getting any power. Does anyone have any knowledge on the electrical circuitry of the unit?

Trace the wire coming out of back of cluster( my 92 was purple).I had the same problem with my 92. I did the salvage yard swap( paid extra for return if no good- it was no good) it had same problem. I did a little research and found that the dodge Odometer has a 16 tooth and a 26 tooth gear deep in cluster. You can't see the little 16 tooth gear and that's the first to go. I researched farther and found both online in a kit for$ 27.60 delivered to front door.locally wanted$ 28.00 just for the tiny 16 tooth gear... shop around
