Default trans oil cooler 2001 2500 van

hi all, everytime i ask a question i always get great help, so here goes another. When replacing trans cooler on my van, what is the hardest part, removing grill or what other things should i do? My mechanic said cooler is leaking but i would like to try to replace myself. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

to me. they are pretty straight forward. just have to access it, and go from there. Are you using a factory one? Or an aftermarket unit?

the trans cooler is part of the radiator. You could buy an add-on trans cooler and bypass the stock one, which is not difficult to do.

At the age of your van, as was mine it is not a bad idea to replace the rad. I did this 2 years ago when I had the transmission replaced.

I used this from Rockauto

remove the grill, there are screws from the front that you can see, then start removing hoses and use pans to keep the liquids from going all over...

the rest will become obvious to you...

You don't have to remove the grill. Some people actually R&R the radiator from below so as to avoid dealing with the the A/C lines.

thanks all again, when you say bypass stock one, do you mean leave it where it is and put new cooler in front of radiator with those zip strips supplied with cooler. The new cooler just has a supply and return. This my work van
