1996 B2500 starting issues.

Hi all, bought the van last fall and didn't really have too many issues with it until right before winter. The van stalled out and I had to have it towed home while turning it over it would crank but not start. Releasing the key the van would keep cranking, even turning key off and removing it didn't stop it. It would only stop once the battery died or was removed. Replaced the starter yesterday and starter relay today and still no change. Was digging around the forum and decided to check wires in column and found this.

Traced it back to engine bay and it disappears into two main harnesses. Any ideas as to why it keeps cranking even tho the key is off? It also has a mark III conversion package installed if that makes any difference.

*edited added conversion package info.

starting point would be to fix that wiring issue
what size engine?

how about looking at the ignition switch and a fuse block near the batter (power distribution center) that fuses the starter relay?

It's the 5.2L V8.

Can you get it to start when it's all the way cooled off?

I have a 96 b2500 that randomly stalled on me. After a lot of part replacing, realized it was stuck in a warm up mode cause of a bad engine coolant temperature sensor.

No, Wait, you replaced the starter relay and it's still trying to crank??? Have you pulled the relay while it's cranking yet?

That yellow/red wire goes to the starter relay in the PDC. It may have gone bad and someone attempted to repair it with the yellow wire (bad job). Disconnect that yellow wire and see if it will still crank.

Got to find out where that yellow wire goes and either fix it or remove it.
