No start, no power to pump, coil, CPS
 

A friend gave me an old '97 B2500 5.2 with 279K on it. It has sat here for a year or two. I'd crank it every once and a while. it needed tires and calipers which is why it sat. Once before it wouldn't start but did the next day; no big deal. It's just an old beat up work van, nothing special.

A year later I put tires and calipers on it, drove it down the road and back fine. I went to unload all the crap i keep stored in it and it just died and won't restart. It will spin but no fire to plugs, power to fuel pump or voltage to CPS.

I swapped ASD relay with a known good one with the same results. I probed power wires to ECU (If A is on the right) and I have power from key and battery and good grounds.

My 15 year old cheap actron will not communicate with the ECU; it gives the operator error message. Any ideas?

Usually when a scan tool cannot connect to the PCM, the PCM is malfunctioning.

You could have:

mice that ate wiring
bad, corroded connections
bad, stuck relays, grounds

Yeah I suspected that too especially when I noticed the MIL didn't light at all. All my other connections check out and I had power and ground to the ECU.

I went to a local yard in search of another one with no luck. I did some digging online and found mention of terrible solder joints on the PCB. This didn't surprise me as Chrysler products have never been known for stellar electrical design or execution thereof.

I pondered these thoughts as I walked with the dog in the yard this morning. I put the dog back in the house, grabbed the ECU off the floor of my truck..... and then beat it against a wooden post in front of our barn. I reinstalled the ECU and it now runs again.

When all else fails.....

Just is case, you might check on Ebay for a spare.

Will a junkyard ECU HAVE to be flashed? According to Cardone, theirs will work fine right out of the box with no flashing. Is this the same for swapping in a used ECU? Thanks

That's bang programing, not flash. Guess I'll have to borrow a rain coat.
