2001 Dodge B3500 van mystery battery drain
#21
I get 00 read using 500mA setting.
Did again with door open and dome light ON. Reads 1.1 Amp drain
Now with such a small drain why does battery fall to 8 volts in 2-3 days?
Should I do the pull-each-fuse test again, starting with the drain reading .13 amps ?
Did alternator charging test...accelerating in neutral gives me 14+ volts to the battery. Sounds OK.
Thanks everyone !

Yes, I would now start removing each fuse one at a time and check amp draw after each removal. Shouldnt take long for that. Just because you show the alternator is charging doesn't necessarily mean it does not cause a drain when the vehicle is not running. Also do a good visual check to make sure a rodent has not been chewing on your wires. Now that you have a good measuring tool, your meter you should be able to identify the faulty circuit.

Did the fuse removal test. Overall battery drain is 13 Ma (.013 A) , with VERY slight fluctuations. Removed one fuse that dropped
drain down to 025 Ma (.025 A).
It was a 40 amp fuse for "Battery feed #2". (There is another fuse for "Battery feed #1...its OK) What is that??? I have no idea.
Repeated test 3 times, same result for this fuse. NOW WHAT???
Not done the alternator test yet, The service tech who installed new battery said he tested alternator...OK. Thanks for not giving up on on this mystery !!!

Without a wiring diagram, I am guessing the Battery 2 wire powers a set of fuses in the inside fuse box, thats why I asked if you checked the fuses inside. I still think , just to rule out , you need to disconnect the alternator and check for drain, even though your mechanic said the alternator is charging.
