Horn sounding on it's own
Have an 04 1500 Laramie 4x4, other night noticed that the horn was chirping on its own, had to pull the fuse to get it to stop, I also tried leaving the doors unlocked to determine if there was something with the anti-theft,
Anyone have the same problem? |
RE: Horn sounding on it's own
you need a new horn switch which is the cover for the airbag

RE: Horn sounding on it's own
Your profile does not indicate if you live in a Northern climate. You also do not indentify whether your vehicle was garaged. If outside and in the cold, the horn relay could be bad as metal contracts as it gets cold, thus causing the contacts to be closer together. However, I would think if this was the problem, the horn would sound continuously once contact was made, not chirp. If you have a security package, you might look at your owners manual as there are multiple audible alerts that can sounded under special conditions.

Had the same problem....its the horn switch. My problem started while on vacation in NC Took it to the dealer and they had it back to me in no time. Said they replaced the horn pad. I hear its very common.

RE: Horn sounding on it's own
I live in Southern BC, Canada.
The night that the problem occured the temperature was dropping from +3 to -6 Celcius, I was only referring to the stock immobilzer that comes with the truck Thanks for the info, An update, this morning went to start my truck and it would not start, battery was dead!! This thing only has 650 km, after being a Toyota guy for 10 years I started to feel like I had made a bad choice!! Anyway turns out the horn pad was defective, only making slight contact, I guess the part is back ordered so it must be common problem.[>:] |
RE: Horn sounding on it's own
I have a 2004 Ram 1500 with a horn problem. It goes off intermittantly but NEVER goes off when I am driving. There is another problem that MAY be related. The truck stalls intermittantly. Once every month on average.
My Theory: The truck does not have a security system but may have part of the securiy wiring harness installed from the factory. My theory is the Remote keyless entry electronic module which makes a chirp when you lock the doors is defective. The remote keyless system may share an ignition kill switch if a factory security system is installed. When the truck stalls on the road no horn sounds because the engine is running or the truck is moving greater than 15 mph which disables the horn from sounding but NOT the ignition kill switch. (horn is sounding as I write this) If it is the horn ring slightly touching, it is amazing it has not sounded when I am driving as this problem is getiing worse in colder weather but failing electronic components such as the remote keyless system may be sensitive to colder temperatures. (leaky capacitors) Just thought of something...when I am driving, the heater is on. Just a side note: When the truck stalls, there is no error code generated per service center. Heck, with the security system ignition kill switch activated, an engine failure code would NOT be entered. |
