what about the key trick. like turn the key on 3 times fast and count the times the check engine light flashes

thestealth 09-10-2010 01:15 PM

That doesn't work on these cars.

91stealthguy 09-13-2010 11:45 PM

ok so whats the best way to check them cause i dont have an old school volt meter

thestealth 09-14-2010 08:25 AM

You can pick a cheap one up at Home Depot for <$10. I tried with a digital volt/ohm meter and it does not work, it's got to be an analog meter.

ok cause the guy i got the car from said the TPS was bad but i pulled it off and used a ohm meter and it seemed to be working just fine but now im thinking it could be a dirty crank sensor or something

thestealth 09-15-2010 09:17 PM

If you get an analog meter and do the test as outlined on stealth316 it will tell you exactly what the problem is. A meter is cheap...and crank angle sensor is not. Find out what is causing the CEL, then go from there. If you are unwilling to do at least that, well, good luck then. :)

ya i need to go get one but i have to frive almost a hour to get to home depot but when im able to get down there i will get one and see what it says. im hoping something cheap and easy

what are the symptoms? Poor running, poor fuel economy? Won't start?

WalMart would probably have a cheap analog meter...hell, a test light might work, but I've never tried it.
