Just recently Ibought a 2001 Dodge Stratus Coupe SE 2.4L and now I thinking of replacing the timing belt. The previous owner cannot recall when andif he ever replace it. I now have 105,000 mile on it. I guess the question is when to replace the timing belt?
I want to buy the part myself.Should I buy a timing belt or timing chain?
Sounds like you need to be a little more informed of just how big of a job this really is. It can be a PITA expecially if you don't have the tools. A manual (Hayne's or otherwise) is essential. If there are any doubts that you can do it yourself, have someone else who has done it help you or take it to a garage.
Should be changed at 60k miles, however many have worked well past that. I recommend getting it done, as its a crutial part. You will need the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner, and any related gaskets. ALL parts can be found at Advance Auto.
