Default Blower motor resistor failing

I have a 2000 Dodge Stratus SE with 176,000 miles. Every year or two the blower motor resistor fails. Easy and cheap enough to replace, but why does it fail? Like I said, after replacing, the new one lasts at least a year, sometimes two before failing again. Thanks for any help.

it could be the fan drawing to much current causing it to fail sooner, also dodge had issued a tsb about a revised resistor that covers 2000's you have to enlarge the opening for the resistor a little. there are no diagrams https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2773175-post4.html

Thanks for the response. Is there a part number for the new resistor?
