2004 stratus cv axle splines aren't meshing with transmission
For awhile now, there has been a grinding noise coming from the front drivers side. It had the symptoms of a wheel bearing issue. I replaced that and nothing changed. I thought maybe the cv axle, it wasn't loose though. Finally I put car on stands, put it in drive, and gave it a little gas. It made the noise, so I looked under and felt the axle end by the transmission, and I could hear and feel it grinding, leading me to believe that it is the inner tripod joint. I know it's not ideal to drive on, but until I repair it, will it be alright to drive on?

Same Problem
Hey man, my daughters 03 Stratus is having the exact same issue. We changed the CV Axle, and it still has a free play spot in the axle. Like if I turn the axle, there is resistance, and at a point it will break free and have zero resistance for about an inch or so.
What was the outcome of your issue, or are you still experiencing the problem??? |
The problem could be the final drive assy. The spider gears could be stripped.

Is that inside the transmission? Does this sound like I am going to have to change the whole transmission? Any hel p you can give me on this would be great. I need to get her back on the road and get my truck back.
Thanks |
I see on the other post you have a 5 speed tranmission. This maybe some other problems that you could be having. Like an input bearing, release bearing or clutch assy.
