Default Idle Control Problems. Please Help!

I recently just bought a used 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0 v6 24 valve. The car is beautiful and runs fine most of the time. It doesn't want to start after setting for several hours. It will start and then stall out. If I give it a little bit of gas, it will be fine. The check engine light came on and first it ran P0506 Idle Control System RPM Lower Than Expected and then a few days later it ran P0507 Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected.

The dealer said it might of had something to do with the battery, and after recharging it, he reset the SEL and it came back on approx 50 miles later with the same code. With older cars you can just adjust the throttle cable, but I guess with this newer dodge it is all done by the computer. I really would like to get this fixed, but I don't know how. I really hate having to give my car any gas on a cold start.

i'm having a similar problem on a 2002 dodge stratus 24 valve 3.0L. it stall when stopped and in gear after running for about 15min. i can keep it running by barely pressing on the accelerator to keep it going. before it warms up idle is over 1000 rpm as expected but after warm up idle is about 500 to 600 rpm when in gear with the brake on. any ideas on what could be causing this problem would greatly be appreciated.
thank you,
tony

Question

i also have this problem with my 2002 stratus coupe r/t but mine wasn't throwing codes but was having a hard time idling but only at random times. didn't think much of it but yesterday i had to change my spark plugs which is a pain in the neck (thank you mitsubishi motors) a fifteen minute job took all day but once i had i all put back together it still ran horribly and all of a sudden i had a idle air controller code. any idea how to fix this without spending 300 bucks on a new part?

Take the IAC off and inspect it for carbon deposits. Also check the hole it seats against for the same. Clean it if you see something on it.

i have a 2000 stratus 2.5 and im having problems with idle also? I replaced my iac and the tps. i put new plugs in it and cap and button it also but it still wants to stall when im coming to a stop. My car runs great on highway and in town as long as i dont stop. I might add that if i tap guess a lil before it goes to below 1000 rpms that it wont stall. I have noticed rough idle also which comes and go but the stalling is not going away.. I also replaced crank sensor. Im very lost here and cant afford to keep guessing what the problem is.. Can anybody help me here????

Before you play with the IAC take a can of carburetor cleaner and an acid brush and clean in and around the throttle body butterfly edges and throttle body interface. Had the same issue on a 2.4 L Stratus. Cleaned it up real well and it idled very nice. What can happen is the calibrations in the throttle positions are very small and precise and when the throttle body gums up the butterfly won't go back to the intended idle position. Now with the throttle body out of position, the PCM starts to compensate for the precieved throttle movement and thats when you get bad idling characteristics. If it still idles bad after the cleaning, pull the IAC and clean.
