can anyone tell me what this is? why it was sizzling and making the engine very hot!? the gauge wasn't reading hot, was about in the middle but the engine had a 'hot' smell and was very hot.

upper raditor hose to block adapter. the nipple is an air bleed for the cooling system. 2.7's are know for failures of this part. the sizzling is pressure leakage

 

Replaced that on both of my Stratus's. Have to lift intake to get to one of the bolts to remove. Just went to dealer for the part but I think parts stores have them. Common issue you are having but don't let it go too long, all of a sudden it could blow and I do know of one person who cooked his 2.7 and had to get a new engine because of it.
