WHILE cranking? Is this a 2.7 or a 2.4 ? Sedan or Coupe ?
both (I believe), It is a 2.4 Sedan. I will double check the out of sync reading again to see if it says the same thing while cranking and not cranking.
2.7L ? Unplug the cam sensor and crank over for about 7-10 seconds.
Can you see the cam and crank in sync on the scan tool while you turn it over? Thinking possibly the flex plate cracked and shifted.
so...I unplugged the cam sensor and cranked the engine for the designated time (it actually sounded like it wanted to start, which got me excited) then I plugged the sensor back in (which I assumed I was supposed to do) to my disappointment it did not start after that or even act like it wanted to for that matter.

yes, it says out of sync and it doesn't change whether I just have the key on or I am cranking it although when I am cranking the engine the "Current CMP & CKP state" change from lost to present. I am going to post all the read outs to see if that helps.
If you are showing in sync and out of sync while cranking or JUST out of sync, then you have a timing problem. The reading at key on is irrelevant. If it is a cam/crank sync issue, it will usually set a DTC after cranking for 20-25 seconds.

So could it be an issue of high mileage timing belt stretch?
