Sputtering at fast acceleration

I have a 2006 dodge stratus sxt. The car runs fine during normal conditions. When I go to pass someone or have to put my foot down on the gas pedal to get up a hill, the car sputters when it reaches above 3000 rpms. Check engine light flashes. Once it shifts and the rpms go back down, the engine light turns off and it drives back to normal. Any ideas?

any idea on how I may be able to fix that on my own? Spark plugs? Fuel injectors?

Start with spark plugs. Have you had it scanned for codes? That will identify where the misfire is. Could also be a vacuum leak.

I have not scanned for codes yet.
