Wondering how all of you tennagers convinced your parents that it wasn't a fast car and its not a "race car".. Explain how i can convince my Mom to buy me one. Its not the price issue its the thing that she thinks its a race car. We went to the dodge dealership and also the subaru dealership. The dodge dealer explained how fast it was and so on.... The subaru dealer didnt say anything about speed just that it was turbo charged, and she doesnt know what that means so if i cant convince her about SRT..im getting a WRX... HELP ME OUT THOUGH!!

First the bad news.....When the insurance company sees how old you are, your Mom is going to sit up and take notice no matter which car you buy. Also, as a police officer, I can tell you mano-e-mano that cops target teenagers in "go-fast" cars for the simple reasons that they have less driving experience and are more likely to make mistakes and, as a GROUP, they are more likely to be drinking and driving as well as using drugs and driving. This is NOT my opinion, these are statistics we get from "higher-ups".

You can go to several insurance company websites which will show you the same thing....

Hmm thats a tough one. dusty is right though. I know insurance on this car is killing me and im 27 and married. It would break the bank if iI was a teen.

If your a teen, you probably aren't that responsible to have a wrx or an srt-4. You should'nt have to convince your parents if they knew you were actually a responsible person.

Explain how i can convince my Mom to buy me one
Realize that your mom is probably going to have to work over a thousand hours to pay that thing off. I personally think if you are going to let your parents buy you a car, go with something affordable, possibly a stratus or neon in the low 15K zone. If you want an expensive vehicle as you were talking about over 20K, why not get a job and pay it yourself? ;)

First the bad news.....When the insurance company sees how old you are
Thats a good point too Dusty.

I'm 16 and I own the SRT. I'm not listed as the main driver but i usually drive it more than the van. It is a great car. I didn't have to convince my parents at all, my parents have trust in me not to do anything stupid. I know about 90 percent of the kids at my school would have it up to 140 mph all the time if they had it, me on the other hand have only drove it up to 75-80 range on the interstate, because I know my parents trust me and i want to keep that trust. If your mom trusts you she should not even have to think about it. If you get either don't give us teens a bad wrap, we can be respinsible and not irresponsible morons.

I agree with you...It all depends on the individual. When my son turned 16 (1997) I purchased him a 1997 Turbo Eclipse due to his good grades (4.8 gpa). He was and still is a responsible driver and never received any moving violations. The only ticket ever received was a CS ticket for modified exhaust....which we won in court........When I was 16 I was able to purchase a 1969 RoadRunner with a 383 4-Spd (I wish I still had that car). I also received no moving violations and was a very responsible driver. I was involved in street racing in a controlled environment....not on busy city streets. Teenagers can and should own High Performance vehicles, but they must be responsible. If not then they will have to live and pay for their mistakes....
