Overheating
Got a question?
My SRT4 is overheating and there's plenty of radiator fluid. Any suggestion? |
RE: Overheating
An overheating turbo is bad news...I'd drive it VERY GENTLY to the dealer. Turn on your heater as well to take away some of the heat...

RE: Overheating
roach, did you pull codes?
key on, off, on, off on fairly quick, should display codes where your mileage reads out. On is just one stop short of start, off is just forward of the button locking. Offhand, sounds like a bad thermostat. Didn't you just return from away? Call your dealer first, tell them exactly whats going on, let them say what to do. That way, you are covered against possible "Well, you should not have driven the car sir" kinda stuff. |
RE: Overheating
Key on off, on,off won't do a thing...any srt4 on the street is not old enough to be out of warrenty..take it to the dealer...don't beat on it until you get it looked at.

RE: Overheating
Yes it will, I have done it to mine. It displays OBDII codes, such as P0633 for cars with Stage 1, which is "SKIM key mismatch"
Heck, a month ago, a young man posted about a check engine light. Code indicated "thermostat irrationality". Turns out he had gutted his thermostat, in search of peformance. And of course, it's in warranty. That does not mean you should not gather information about whatevers wrong. What's this, wow, a pic of a displayed code. and no, that was not dooen with any scan tool, just the ignition key. http://www.srtforums.com/forums/atta...achmentid=2470 I don't get the "don't beat on it comment, though" |
RE: Overheating
I think he means don't get frustrated...[&:]

RE: Overheating
Oh, I'll agree with that!!!!!!!!

RE: Overheating
Slay, I don't mean to come off like I'm slamming you. But I hate the "silly owner, just drop it of, we'll handle it, don't be bothered trying to understand your car" attitude. Believe it or not, educated owners can be an honest techs best friend, and of course the flip side, a dishonest techs worst nightmare. Can you test drive a car for hours, just trying to recreate a problem? Start it cold three or four mornings in a row? Sometimes, but if the owner can give you a better idea of triggering conditions, it should make your job easier. How many "Could not duplicate" sign offs are there because the tech does not know exactly what the complaint is? I actually take the time to take a drive with the tech or writer, and point out whatever the problem is.
I realize there are idiot owners, just as there are idiot techs and service writers. But don't judge us all. And we won't judge back:) |
RE: Overheating
Thanks guys.
two things, s there a code book for i can trouble shoot the problem? 2nd, Dust, why do you say is the turbo when is the H2O temp gauge that reads over heatin? or Just go to da dealer? [:o] |
RE: Overheating
Roach,
Look here http://www.dodge-srt4.com/home.html Tech articles section. Pretty complete list. Only been one found that's not on there yet. Your turbo is cooled by coolant addition to oil. Also, amazingly enough, the mount for your oil filter is ALSO an oil cooler, coolant is routed through there too. Don't kill yourself here. Pull codes, then take it in. If you have some mod you think might be causing the issue, speak up, we can't help without complete information. |
