(Another) OIL and FILTER question
Just bought some from the Dodge dealer - the "Lube Specialist" knew this would be my first oil change and he sold me a MO-452 (4781452BB) filter and claimed it was a new number that replaces the 4781452AA filter. Is this true?
Also, the oil is 5w-30 "All Season" Part No. 4761838AC ...is this pretty good oil? I noticed that the owner's manual claimed that synthetic wasn't really needed unless you were driving the car pretty hard. I plan on driving mine pretty easy about 95% of the time and I'm not really looking to do any mods for quite a while. Thanks. |

If I was changing my own oil I would use Valvoline 5-30 and a Purolator or Wix filter that I would buy from a parts store in cars that are not performance oriented. I don't know about Mopar oil or who makes it but I have read where they use filters by Champion. (whose Champion?) Very low grade filter. What I did use was Mobil 1 oil & Purolator filter.

Personally, I would stick to synthetic oil since the turbo bearings get very hot and regular dyno oil can get "cooked" by them. Easy driving won't really solve the problem since all SRT-4s run hot and conventional oils just don't hold up as well under the heat. As for oil filters, a K&N Performance Gold oil filter will filter down to 10 microns and has a burst strength of 550 psi, compared to 15 microns and and 200 psi for the Fram HP-1 oil filter or 400 psi for their HP-6 Super Racing oil filter.
Oil and filters are areas where you shouldn't skimp on quality, IMO. Hard learned advice from driving cars for over 40 years...... Dusty |

If not, I may use regular Mopar 5w30 till about 10,000 miles and then switch to Synthetic. I'm sure that I saw a Mopar-boxed 5w30 Mobil 1 on a site, but I can't find it now. It had "Mopar Performance" on the sides of the box and regular "Mobil 1" info on the ends of the box. Does this sound familiar? I know it's just regular Mobil 1, but I'm a freak about buying factory labeled parts. |

Dodge dealers carry Mobil 1, and it comes in a 6qt Mopar/Mobil branded box... I didn't know untill two days ago... My brother works in parts and I had him get me some 0w40.

Yeah, most vehicles use or can use 5w30 so they'll have that for sure. The 0w40 is what they use in the Crossfire, the box actually has a pic of the Crossfire on it.
