Welcome to DF kirk! This is an age old question. 
Check out the Motor Oil Thread in the 3rd Gen FAQ Section. There are tons of user polls and user inputs on what they use. It seems more and more ppl are switching to Syns. I am one whos still running the Conventional Oil aka Dino Oil. Also while you are at it check out the 3rd Gen Ram Section, and go ahead and introduce yourself there too
