Default Frankenstien

Hi, This is my first post. I am a 75 year old and own a dodge truck.

I just need to find out about how or if the 1995 318 was balanced with or without the flywheel. It had a manual transmission but is now in my 1985 with an automatic A727 transmission. I have found that some of them were balanced with the torque converter. I need to purchase a new torque converter and I am concerned about keeoing the engine and torque converter in balance. Any direct knowlege in this area would be greatly apreciated.

This 1985 truck is called Frankenstien because it has 3/4 ton suspension from 1976. It once had 1985 Lincoln throttle body fuel injection. The 1995 318 port injected engine uses a 1985 Lincoln fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator from the top of the Lincoln throttle body. The timing pickup that was detecting the flywheel is now at the front of the engine. I have been driving it since 1985.

318' were internally balanced, so, flexplate/torque converter should be neutral balance. Don't forget to remove the pilot bushing from the end of the crank before you try and put the trans in. (don't ask me how I know that.....)

Are you keeping the fuel injection? There is a thread in the 2nd gen tech section for 2nd gen EFI into first gen truck. May be helpful.

Welcome to DF!

The truck "Frankenstien" has had the 1995 318 for about 5 years with the port injection setup. Runs great. The previous carbureted 318 (1985) was once modified to use Ford 302 throttle body injection. It ran great on the Ford stuff. A chevy 283 will also run just fine on Ford 302 throtte body. The Lincoln Towncar computer will adjust for the +16 cubes 318, or the -19 for the 283.

Welcome to DF. You should post this stuff in the 1st and 2nd gen ram section. And please use a better thread title if posting in the tech section of either. Thanks
