RE: Toyota Tops GM in 1Q Global Sales
I'm not really surprised, considering how big the market on smaller cars is these days and the fact that the GMC label doesn't offer any cars at all (for that matter why do GMC and Chevy sell identical rebadged trucks?). Chevy's small cars didn't have a great reputation for quite awhile and the general public seems to regard the camry as one of the most reliable small cars in existence. I don't know how much better their new offerings are but you don't build or change a reputation overnight. I honestly think Dodge would have sold a lot more new Neons if they had changed the name, the old ones had a horrible reputation for crash safety, and at least in the area I grew up in most people didn't regard them as reliable cars. To me the new generation is light years better.
I really think the Big Three have a lot of catching up to do with Toyota in the family/economy car department. The technology and appeal are already coming around from what I've seen, now the American companies need to work on changing the general public attitude that imports are superior. Of course when it comes to muscle/sports cars and trucks I see the American brands on top, although Toyota has done decent in the truck market (I don't count the Honda as a truck, I have no idea what that thing is). |

I blame MTV...but yeah, its a bit sad that american auto cannot hold up to forgein vehicles right now. Its bad enough a jap brand made it into NASCAR, whats next?! HONDA MOTORS IN OUR DODGE?! OMGGGGGG
