Hypermiling has bigger results with V8's.

i could see that but how many people are really willing to shut off their engine going downt he highway or even just shift into nuetral (w/ and auto) im not even comfortable really doing it on the street i live on and i stop a tthe very end and wouldnt need to shift back into gear until i stopped i mean the 31+ mpg is less than a 50% gain(+1/2 of what i get 21-22) and i dont really see how the mass public would do it

i was also raised to believe that if you pop out of gear while driving stop pull over and put it back in gear or you will damage the tranny thats what my parents always told me and i have neve been told otherwise if im worng please correct me

Your parents had older cars with old transmissions that used old technology. Double clutching is also a thing of the past lol. The only thing you don't want to do is shut down, because then you do have to stop because you have to put it in park to start it again. You also lose power steering and your brake booster when you shut down, and we all know that losing power is way different than actually having manual steering and brakes.

Well not into reverse is kind of obvious, but no there shouldn't be any harm. Nofrag, you can also start in neutral.

from the thing i read about the guy hypermiling in a prius..he didnt shut the engine off..he would just coast long distances and such...usually at low speed. he claimed that once he perfects it, he would get 100mpg...but he also had to leave an hour earlier than usual to go anywhere.

Ideas for a national or regional Dodge pickup get together:

1. Pay to have a professional Hypermiler champion pick four or five Dodge pickups at random and drive them around a road course to show what kind of City MPG can really be achieved.

2. Have a large assortment of mounted tire types available for Dodge owners to try out around a road/off road course

3. Have a computer set up to give a Dodge Ram knowledge test to, with certificates that could be pasted into signatures

4. Have a hands-on demonstration of DIY cylinder head porting with free tin can metal cut-outs of the correct profile

etc
