Actually, in carberated engines, if a car diesels after the ignition is shut off, it is carbon build up on the valves. Pouring a very small stream of cold water into the carb throat, while it is running, will break the carbon loose and fix the problem. I've never tried it on a fuel injected engine, but it is the best fix for dieseling in a carberated engine. Next best is to add about 8 ounces of diesel to the crankcase and run a vehicle for about 5 minutes while it is hot. Those 2 methods are time-tested and still taught at alot of mechanic schools. The STP and other fuel treatments aren't half as successful.
