I thought I would ask here. A customer came in the shop last week with his son's 92 or 93 Spirit, the father tells me his kid bought it for college, and only paid $700 for it, turns out for it to pass NYS inspection its going to need about $750 in repairs, p/s steering pump, 2 tires, muffler/ tail pipe,. He said he doesnt know if his kid is going to want to spend that kind of cash on it. I told him if his son wants to get rid of it let me know, I might be interested in it.
He calls me at the shop today and said I could have it for $800. Is it worth it? Heres what it has:

241k on the V6
3 speed auto
clean interior no tears or stains
slight damage on the left rear quarter panel
paint still has some shine
no damage on any of the glass
A/C , man. windows, locks
AM/FM stereo no cassette.

I was thinking of offering him $350 for it, or is $800 the going price

I don't know that it's worth $800, but I know it's probably worth more than $350... Maybe $500?

It is certainly not worth more than the $700 the kid paid for it especially with the amount of work needed to make it legal. I would say 500 max.

If everything else is good or isnt bad go for it, im surprised though that it would only have a 3 speed auto, especially since its a 92 or 93 model

My point here is the fact that there are different ways of naming a tranny by gears.

Many say 3 speed and that's actually the correct way even though many think that a 3 speed with over drive is 4 speed.

Mine is an auto- 3 speed.

Yes but not all have over drive so when you say 3 speed it sounds like you mean just 3 gears, he never said 3 speed with overdrive and i just call the ones with over drive 4 speeds for some reason though i do know that most of the time 4th is an over drive gear at least in our years

Like said, depends on who you ask. Many of the older shade tree mechanics still call a tranny by the gears excluding OD. Many younger guys just count all gears.
