Default Blu Ray Software

What is a good Blu Ray player software to use? I have had a BD on my computer for about 2 years and finally got around to buying a BD, however when I put the disk in it was recognized but no app would play the disk. Anyone?

Hell, I still haven't figured out what a blue ray is yet. I still have VCR tapes to convert to DVD!

Well Bluray is a sony trademarked format. Bluray is a format known as AVCHD on blu-ray discs the playable format is in the form of a codec. What you need to play AVCHD is a media player that supports blu-ray codecs which I am not sure what the form is wether or not its something like an avi or whatnot. My Sony camcorder is a full hd AVCHD that I use for video editing but a lotta times I format it to an mpeg2 or mpeg4 for as not to deal with bluray since I dont want to buy bluray discs. I suggest finding a sony based program that deals with blu-ray as it is their technology at work.

Nero should have the required codecs to run a bluray disk, but even I don't like paying them for any of their software.

Like the others have stated, you should probably go get the nice little plugin that came with your laptop, but I assume that you axed all of that with a clean OS install.

Just recently, I got into some of those movie formats, and came across an interesting little app that might handle it. Since I don't have a BD drive on my laptop, I can't test it for you, so you'll have to try this on your own. It's called: Combined Community Codec Pack I think it was built by a Russian as it has the sickle and hammer on it, but it works very much well on most of the files I've come across.

To anyone that uses this software: DO NOT adjust the settings in this program if you don't know what you are doing! You can basically zap the system real quick fast and in a hurry. Even on mine it was trying to torch the system pretty bad with the CPU and GPU utilization.
