"A notice to dealers says the part was manufactured by Dana Corp."

Dana is still in business. They have emerged from bankruptcy (as per Wikipedia). www.dana.com
It's CEO is a former Toyota head of production in North America.

From the offical Toyota preliminary recall document:
"The subject front propeller shafts are manufactured by Dana and can be identified as shown below"

And than a little below that:
"In the event you are contacted by the News media, it is imperative that all media contacts (local and national) receive a consistent message. Please direct all media contacts to Brian Lyons (310) 468-2552 or John Hanson (310) 468-4718, in Toyota Corporate Communications. (Please do not provide these numbers to customers or call if you are a dealer associate.)"

I actually feel a *little* sorry for a big corporation right now. Seems like Toyota can do no right!

Well, at least with these, it's a more reasonable volume of vehicles. Only 8,000, and the defect seems to have been caught BEFORE any accidents.

In Toyota's defense, these are manufacturing defects. It's not like they forgot to install parts at the factory, which is leading to these falling off.

Still glad I own my gas-sipper.
