yeah the R6 isnt a bad starter bike I reckon. But if your a big boy, you're gunna get tired of revin that bike up all the time. Just simply doesnt have the tourqe the R1 offers to help get the bike movin at small RPMs

Anybody can do a wheelie on a 600cc bike. If you cant do it its because of user ability. if the racers can wheelies there 250s down a straitaway a big boy can do one on a 600.

If you go buy a 1000cc bike as a beginner (to street) you're going to seriously hurt yourself. I had rode dirtbikes for about the same amount of time, it's not nearly the same as a street bike. I'm 6' 4" 200 pounds and I have no trouble getting the front end up on my r6.

I'm only 19 and was basically in the same poistion as you. I wanted a more powerful bike but realized it was better to start with a 600. Most people who have been riding for numerous years wouldn't even recomend a 600 to start on. Bikes hold their resale value extremely well so if you ever want to move up you'll have no problem selling your bike.

Once I get out of college I'm going to upgrade to a ducati 1198.

every sportbike rider i know who rides alot and has been doing so for a long time without incident started off with something smaller like a 600 and moved up as they got some experience. i plan to do exactly this should i get a bike. all of my friends with sportbikes have told me when i do buy my first sportbike to not get a real nice one because mistakes happen when youre learning...

600's arnt wheelie machines... uve got to use the clutch to get them up unlike 1000s. if your trying to wheelie just get a stunt bike dont chance messing up a nice bike

Dude a gs500 is bigger then an r6 trust me if you are a big guy you dont wanna short r6. Nothin looks funnier then a big guy on an r6. If I had a pic of my friend with his I would post it. Stick With a Ninja or a GSXR. Hell even try a TL1000r or a Honda. Im 6ft 2 and looked kinda funny on the GS500 The newer GS500FK's are bulkier and a lot better lookin. If you are worried about too much power get a katana or similar v-twin. If you are used to motocross bikes you shouldnt fear a 1000 maybe a zx1400 or a busa but not a 1000

lol, truth right there. Like I said, the R6 isnt a bad starter bike. I've ridden both and theres no way I'd buy the lil R6 but if you arent smart and like to do stupid stuff like wheelies or treat it like a toy then by all means do it on a smaller bike or else you will kill yourself in no time.
