That sounds like normal thunderstorms for NC. They are frequent during the summer and often drop large hail and produce damaging winds.
You know, I was expecting hail, but it never happened. I wonder why? You think with a thunder storm like that, you would see some hail.
The underlying air was too warm to sustain the hail before hitting the ground, or there wasn't enough lift in the storm to freeze large enough pieces of ice.

That makes sense. It was pretty warm last night, 92 degrees.
