Supreme Court Ruling saying Private developers can now legaly sieze your private property and you cannot do anything about it.

it's like this, you own a home, maybe have 4 years left to pay on it. a developer goes to the gov't and tells them they want your land, and your neighbors land for a nice buisness park. local gov't complies and your forced to move out as the bulldozers tear down your house. your stuck paying the rest of the mortgage even though you no longer have the house or the land[:@]

this is another nail in the coffin when it comes to freedoms we as americans enjoy. we are more and more becomeing a Socialist state.

looks like I'm be renting for the rest of my life[:@]

WTF?! That's terrible and unconstitutional! [:@][:'(] Just because those supreme court geezers have nothing to worry about because they're in a state retirement home, doesn't mean they can do this!

They still could take the house and land. They just wouldn't still have the morgage.

The concept their using to get the land is "eminent domain." The law already existed, and the government could take your house and land (paying you for it, but I'm unsure of whether you get market value or apraised value, or what) as long as it used it for public use, or to reduce blight in a community. What the court just did was to expand the reach of it to let them take it to benefit large corporations. Their using the excuse that the jobs created by the office complex planned for the land will help the public, therefore it's public use. Allow me to respond to that with a sarcastic "Yeah. Right."

No. They just ruled that it IS constitutional. But I think they missed the mark on the "public use" part of it. To me public use means Parks, or a place where "publicly funded" activities take place. NOt something for some developer to build and sell to line their pockets.

This decision makes me sick. It's bad enough when land's taken for projects which do have widespread public benefits -- for example the hundreds of thousands of acres of productive farmland lost to Lakes Sakakawea and Oahe in the Dakotas when Garrison Dam and Oahe Dam were constructed to provide for flood control, irrigation, electric power, drinking water and recreation. But now the government can just act as a proxy of anyone who's richer and better connected than you to arrange for their interests over yours.

Gotta love it when we have lots of people supposedly fighting for freedom when we are losing ours every day.
