Default New Mustang GT-H...

I saw where Ford and Hertz are restarting the old "Rent-A-Racer" sales gimmick and Ford has made some pretty nice Stangs for it. They will be rented for a while and then sold at a public auction when they get about 16,000 to 18,000 miles on them. I was thinking about renting one until I saw that all of them will be equipped with five-speed automatic slushboxes. Why? Automobile Magazine says "Someone at Hertz probably remembers replacing the burnt-out clutches in the stick shift cars". Lets see, would you rather replace a $1,200 clutch or a $4,000 transmission? And to quote Jeff Foxworthy, I feel that buying a used rental car is like looking for a wife in the ghetto, when you look to get something that's been driven that hard for that long by that many people, there's something wrong in your head.

the reason that no one rents manuals is because its much easier to screw up a clutch/manual trans than it is to screw up and auto. to damage an auto, you have to be completely stupid, or doing it on purpose. but lots of people could ruin a clutch in a day.

Or it could just be a Ford automatic. The name alone fu*ks it up. The least that they could do is to put a manumatic feature in it to partially please the racers like me.

Same here, that's how the Ram's 2nd transmission went. Drag racing on a rebuilt DCX automatic transmission, not a good idea.

neutral slams, redlining, and flooring it on ice then it catches grip on a 04 pacifica isn't a good idea.

Except for the neutral slams, that's exactly what I did.
