I feel bad asking this because im a fan of car/ truck but I just dot know what does a 3.73 transmission mean or a 4.47 or ... well the number come from what

That's the ratio of the drive gear. For example, my Dad's Capri had 4.10's in the rear end. That means that the gear in the diff. had a ratio of 4.10 teeth on the rear end gear to one tooth on the axle gear. The higher the ratio, the more pulling power it has, but the top speed is lower. That's why transmissions have higher ratios in the low gears and lower ratios in the high gears.

Mat, do you mean the differential gearing? transmission gearing and differential gearing are different.

oh yeah nice so a 3.73 give high speed but low on accel ?

Other way around. The higher the ratio, the faster it will be off the line.

for a 0-60 you better had a '3.73' or something like 4.10 ...

It depends on what you want. If you want something like a daily driver or a circle-track racer, then something in the mid-range like 3.51's or even 3.73's would be good. But if you're drag racing, then something like 4.10's or 4.54's would be better.
