Petty won three championships and 37 races in a Dodge Charger from 1973 to 1977 while Kahne will try to win his first NASCAR Cup race in a Charger after finishing second five times in an Intrepid in 2004.

Kahne waves as Zetsche and Petty look on at the crowd and media assembled at the Detroit auto show. The Charger will make its official debut on the track at Daytona on Tuesday Jan. 11 although teams already tested at Las Vegas late last season.


Dieter Zetsche sat on the 2001 Daytona 500 pole with Bill Elliott's Intrepid when Dodge returned to NASCAR after nearly 25 years away, and he hopes the new No. 9 driver or another racer in his stable can do the same with the Charger this year.
